- The means: This involves the methods used by the trafficker to control the victim. These can include force (physical abuse, sexual abuse, confinement), fraud (false promises, withholding wages, contract fraud), or coercion (threats of harm, debt bondage, psychological manipulation). In child sex trafficking, proof of force, fraud, or coercion is not required; the commercial sex act itself constitutes the trafficking.
- The purpose: The ultimate goal of the trafficker, which is to induce the victim to engage in commercial sex acts.
